About EUROPEAN PACKAGING INSTITUTES CONSORTIUM

The European Packaging Institutes Consortium (EPIC) is the project-organisation of the national packaging institutes of Europe that cooperate on behalf of their members, from retailers to raw material manufacturers. EPIC stimulates the packaging of products creating added value in the European economy in a sustainable and responsible manner. EPIC focuses on education, innovation and the transfer of information on the creation of packaged products.

Pan-European cooperation in packaging education and information services was boosted on April 26, 2002 with the formal start of the EPIC. EPIC is a consortium where European packaging institutes come together on behalf of their members to identify areas where regional or pan-European cooperation might best be initiated or concentrated for the future development of the entire packaging chain in a sustainable manner.

Every institute has a long national tradition as vibrant meeting point for all individuals and companies involved in responsible packaging. Key-factors are objectivity, responsibility and innovativeness in fulfilling their role. As associations, openness towards their members and society as a whole is also essential.

EPIC is member of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), which is a non-profit, non-governmental, international federation of national packaging institutes and associations, regional packaging federations and other interested parties including corporations and trade associations.

The secretariat of EPIC is based at the Czech Packaging Institute, managed by Iva Werbynská, managing director of Czech Packaging Institute and President is Mr. Antro Säilä, managing director of Finnish Packaging Association.

The EPIC‘es main objectives are to work through the national packaging organisations and other members and interested parties to:

  • Promote the development of packaging technology;
  • Contribute to the development of international trade;
  • Provide information on sources of packaging knowledge;
  • Change the informations between the countries regarding the packaging regulations.

Sustainable Packaging in Every Respect.

We know that packaging is absolutely essential for today's world. But we must strive for their sustainability - both economic and ecological. The packaging industry is doing this through intensive discussions with customers, and we can admire and support these solutions both in national packaging competitions and at the WorldStar Packaging Awards.

Passion is at the heart of our consortium. We are continuously moving forward, innovating, and improving. We support sustainable and safe methods of packaging production that reduce environmental degradation, maintain the productivity over time, and support the economic viability of products.
